言葉の意味・解説
・The boy with the thorn in his side 邦題は「心に茨を持つ少年」ですが、直訳すると「茨がそばにある少年」です。
「茨」が少年の内面よりも、体の周囲に置かれている方が、イメージとして歌詞に近いと思われるため、私の訳は「茨に取り囲まれた少年」とさせていただきました。茨は少年の苦悩だと解釈しています。

この曲の少年（主人公）が抱える苦悩とは何でしょうか。
上辺の付き合いや連帯によって人間社会は築かれ、運営されています。一方で、少年が求めるものは本物の「愛」や「信頼」です。
世間的には少年の気持ちは「重すぎる」のですが、少年にとって上辺だけの付き合いは「無価値なもの」で、「そんなもので信じているって言えるの？」と真顔で問いかけてしまう。そんな純真さ故の苦悩を歌った歌だと、解釈しました。
