ラップやメタルをミックスしたサウンドで絶大な人気を集めたアメリカのロックバンド リンキン・パークの1stアルバム「Hybrid Theory」(2000年) に収録されている曲です。

同アルバムの3枚目のシングルとして、2001年6月にリリースされました。

 

歌詞の意味と解釈

タイトルの「ペイパーカット」とは、指先を紙で切る、"かすり傷“を指します。

この言葉は、映画「ジェイコブス・ラダー」(1990年公開) のセリフ「Papercut」(＝紙で切った) からきているそうです。

この映画は、ベトナム戦争の帰還兵が幻覚や悪夢にうなされる体験を描いた映画で、この曲のテーマである「病的な妄想」(パラノイア) と一致します。

いきなり重たいテーマでデビューアルバムは幕を開けます。
