Carpenters – (They Long To Be) Close To You
カーペンターズ – （ゼイ・ロング・トゥー・ビー）クローズ・トゥー・ユー（邦題：遥かなる影）
作曲家バート・バカラックと作詞家ハル・デイヴィッドによって作られた曲で、1960年代に多くのアーティストによって演奏されている曲です。
カーペンターズのバージョンは、彼らの2ndアルバム「Close To You」(1970年) に収録されています。
歌詞の意味と解釈
タイトルを直訳すると「あなたの近くに（いるのを彼らは切望している）」となります。
Close to は「傍に、近くに」、long to は「～するのを切望している、したくてたまらない」という意味です。
憧れの男性に対する想いを綴った曲で、相手の事が好き過ぎて「何もかもがその人に魅了されているように思える様子」が歌われています。
なお、邦題は「遥かなる影」ですが、原詞に該当する言葉はありません。
「あの人にとって私は影でしかない」というやや自虐的な意味で付けられたものと思われます。
