Iron Maiden – The Number Of The Beast
アイアン・メイデン – ザ・ナンバー・オブ・ザ・ビースト（邦題：魔力の刻印）

 

1980年代のメタルブームを担ったイギリスのバンド アイアン・メイデンの3rdアルバム「The Number Of The Beast」(1982年) の表題曲で、5曲目に収録されている曲です。

同アルバムの2枚目のシングルとして、1982年4月にリリースされました。

 

歌詞の意味と解釈

タイトルは、新約聖書の「ヨハネの黙示録」に記述されている「獣の数字」からとられています。

歌詞の内容は、「主人公が邪悪な心に取り付かれる様子」を描いたものです。

一部で、「アイアン・メイデンは悪魔崇拝者である」という非難を受けたそうですが、この曲は商業的にも成功しました。

数字は人間を指している。
そして、数字は６６６である」

Best Of The Beast（1996年）

1stアルバム「Iron Maiden」(1980年) から10th「The X Factor」(1995年) までの代表曲が収録された、2枚組27曲のベストアルバムです。

代表曲を手軽に網羅するにはこれが一番ですが、1996年リリースで音質がイマイチなので、その場合は、再発されたベスト盤「Somewhere back in Time」(主に80年代) か「From Fear To Eternity The Best Of 1990-2010」を選ぶ方がいいかもしれません。
