Marilyn Manson – The Beautiful People
マリリン・マンソン – ザ・ビューティフル・ピープル
スキャンダラスな作品とパフォーマンスで知られるアメリカのロックバンド マリリン・マンソンの、2ndアルバム「Antichrist Superstar」(1996年) に収録されている曲です。
同アルバムのリードシングルとして、1996年9月にリリースされました。
歌詞の意味と解釈
アルバム「アンチクライスト・スーパースター」(＝反キリストのスーパースター) は、キリスト教的ファシズムが支配する世界を破壊するスーパースターを描いた、コンセプトアルバムとなっています（実際はもっと複雑ですが）。
その為、『ビューティフル・ピープル』の全容を理解するには、同アルバム、および3部作と言われるアルバムを聴く必要があります。
ここでは曲単体での解釈となりますが、『ビューティフル・ピープル』とは「(肉体的にも社会的にも)外見が整った富裕層や政治家、宗教的権威」を指し、それらを善、それ以外を悪と考える事（醜く劣ったものを差別し排除する事）は、ファシズムと一緒だと批判する意味が込められている、と考えられます。
それ故、この曲における「美しさの反対は自由」であり、キリスト教的価値観と資本主義はファシズムであり、マリリン・マンソンの露悪的な表現はそれへの反発だと見ることができます。
