アメリカ カリフォルニア出身のロックバンド ザ・ビーチ・ボーイズの9thアルバム「Summer Days(And Summer Nights!!)」(1965年)に収録されている曲です。
夢見心地のキラキラしたサウンドが特徴で、ブライアン・ウィルソンが「LSDの影響下で書いた曲」と言われていましたが、2021年のインタビューでは「素面の時に書いた」とそれを否定するような発言をしているそうです。
歌詞の意味と解釈
歌詞はカリフォルニア・ガールの素晴らしさというより、世界中(アメリカ中)の素敵な女の子が「カリフォルニアに来て、カリフォルニアガールになってくれたらなぁ」という、幻想を抱いているものとなっています。
その為、肝心のカリフォルニア・ガールの魅力はあまり書かれていませんが、"女性とカリフォルニアへの愛"は伝わってきます。
