カナダ出身のシンガーソングライター ダニエル・パウターのメジャーデビューシングルです。
ヨーロッパでCMに起用された事で人気に火が着き、その後世界各国でヒットしました。

2ndアルバム(メジャーレーベルからは1枚目のアルバム)「Daniel Powter」(2005年)に収録されています。

ダニエル・パウターを一躍スターに押し上げた曲ですが、その後彼はヒットに恵まれず、この曲のイメージをいつまでも引きずる事になりました。

歌詞の意味と解釈

タイトル「バッド・デイ」(悪い日、ついてない日)は、一見ネガティブな言葉に思えますが、落ち込むような場面では、「今日は"ついてない日"だから仕方ない」と、自分を励ましてくれる言葉になります。

無理をしなくていい、十分頑張っているから、そんなに抱え込まないで、気楽に行こう、というのがこの曲のトーンです。2006年にこの曲は世界中でヒットしましたが、自分を追い込むような悩みは世界共通だったようです。
